Om Ma Ni Bedme Hung

I wish I remembered what Om Ma Ni Bedme Hung translated to, but I don't. Tashi and I lost contact some time ago now. In any case, it is a direct plea to the people of Tibet to stand against their oppressors - though in the opening few seconds you catch some of Tashi's explanation to me that it's not a call to machismo, rather to new ideas. My timing (drums) is not too solid and Tashi's voice can be even more beautiful than it was that day, believe me - but all the same, a beautiful track. Also features my debut attempting backing vocal in Tibetan :)

Recorded a different afternoon, this features a young South African couple who got off the boat the previous day, I forget their names now. Nice little tune, which we performed along with the rest of Tashi's set at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, in a benefit for the Free Tibet Campaign
